Imagine, just for a moment, that you are Andy Kim.

Make believe that you are a singer/songwriter who left your native Montreal as a teenager in the mid-60s, traveling to New York City where you met your musical idol, Jeff Barry; teamed up with him to record several Top 40 hits (“How’d We Ever Get This Way,” “Baby, I Love You,” “Be My Baby”) for his record label and to write a song that would sell in the millions, and become Record of the Year for 1969 (“Sugar, Sugar”); and composed, produced, recorded and released what would become your signature song and an international hit in 1974 (“Rock Me Gently”). Pretend that your songs and recordings endure to this day, continually being discovered by new generations of fans. And imagine that there’s probably not an hour that goes by when at least one of your songs isn’t playing somewhere in the world.

BREAKING NEWS: Andy Kim‘s new CD, Happen Again, is being released tomorrow, March 30th. To help celebrate the release of his first new album in over twenty years, Toronto’s AM740 (Zoomer Radio) is presenting Andy Kim live in concert at 2:00 p.m. If you’re in or near Toronto on Tuesday, you can be one of the lucky people to see the show in person in the Concert Lobby at the radio station (on a first-come, first-served basis). If not, you can listen to the whole thing on AM740 or on the station’s website, or watch the live webcast on the site. Click on one of the foregoing radio station links for details.

Clay Cole was a true pioneer of the rock and roll era. Even for those not fortunate enough to live in an area where his 1960s TV show aired, there’s no denying that Clay was one of those notable non-performers who hosted many of the great performers of the day – not just on television but also on stage and screen. Today, Clay is continuing to host concerts – now oldies concerts – and making personal appearances to promote his fantastic new book. I have created a Facebook group for fans of oldies music (1950s, 1960s and 1970s) who live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. If you enjoy attending concerts by the original artists and checking out oldies shows and events here in Tampa Bay, this group may be for you. Its main focus is to share news of upcoming shows and links to the websites of local venues, oldies radio stations, and the like.

Andy Kim Fansite Update 01-22-10

World-renowned Montreal-born singer/songwriter Andy Kim (“Rock Me Gently”) has just released a special YouTube video featuring photos of the devastation in Haiti from the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that flattened the capital city and much of the country on January 12, 2010. The video’s soundtrack is Andy’s new recording, “Love Is.” This music video was produced with the purpose of generating donations to the Red Cross. My very first post on my new WordPress blog! I’m so excited!

I created Laura’s Oldies Room to support Laura’s Oldies Sites. Whenever I update any of my oldies-related sites, I will let the world know by posting here.

If you’re a fan of the great music of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, I hope you’ll come along with me on this journey. Many of our favorite artists from these decades are still actively performing and recording. There’s nothing that can match the excitement of seeing your faves in person, which I’ve had the pleasure of doing several times.
